    A Round Tuit

    BIG ideas aren't enough...

If you asked me to become a fly on the wall to see what you've been doing with your business for the last fortnight what would I see?

Would I report back having seen you as a person being productive, getting on with things, making a difference to your bottom line profit and improving the bank balance?

Alternatively could you be seen as chasing the 'Holy Grail',researching, reading, and getting ready to start and almost at the start line?

    It's not an unfamiliar situation
This week alone I've heard 4 people say "I'll get around to it in September"

STOP!! What makes you wait until September if you can progress something today?

Making money (particularly on-line) is all about finding
    1. Something to sell
    2. Somewhere to sell it
    3. Someone to sell to
    OR IS IT!!

Your product, buyers and method of selling will be important once you get your thinking right.

Correct thinking turns ideas in to money-in-your-bank and cash is simple reality
As you may expect, access to the programme, and the coach that coached the best should come with a hefty price tag.

To get our message to as many people as possible, I want you to have access to this programme. So I've decided to make this accessible to everyone that wants it, as it may well be the one missing component that has been holding you back so far and since you can get access to it for just a fraction of the real cost you really should check this out and think about how you might function as a licenced business partner once you are trained to be a Netbods Internet Business Consultant with a special franchise fee to followers of this blog during August 2010 only.

Get around to it now and find out how you could make your fortune as as an Internet business consultant http://www.netbods.co.uk/

I am looking for an entrepreneur who wants to earn £100K a year

Perhaps you feel as though you don't need to build a 'network' or 'associate' with anyone in business right now, or don't need to as you're going start your own business

    FACT Think again

If you want to become a marketeer you must surround yourself with people and network as influences will positively help you.

If you're only surrounded by people from your day job grumbling about office politics and the recession, and spend every evening watching Corrie, Eastenders and sports it will not be a positive help to your business.

Even if you have a day job, in your spare time immerse yourself in anything and everything 'internet or network marketing' related ... positive forums like the Warrior Forum - www.warriorforum.com are good.

Watch out a whingers about and do be sure you are on a winners and not a whiners forums, all you'll do is depress yourself reading comments from people who have never done anything positive and never do , free literature on the internet, e-books if you like outdated stuff!

By feeding your mind with great articles on your subject area continually helps keep your ideas fresh and your finger on the pulse ... and also allows you to be aware of opportunities and people in the field as they develop, helping you with your own business.

After all ...'You become what you read'...

So you'd be right to consider who and what you spend time doing because without realising it, the associations you make on a regular basis can start to influence and affect how you operate as well.

There is no doubt this is true...everybody who works closely with me starts to put on weight, develops a love of eating out in the best restaurants, enthuses about wine and port, and wants to drive an oversized overprice car or even start flying to meetings in thier own plane... honestly, its true! (I say this tongue in cheek, but there's a serious side to this too).

What's as important, if not more so, is to avoid the "wrong'uns and bad eggs" too... not only the 'non-productive' activities that don't contribute to your success, but also people that (rightly or wrongly) could 'blot your copy book' purely by associating with them...

Would you really want to partner up with somebody who has a poor reputation for over-hyping in copy, not fulfilling promises, or treating customers badly? ... Of course not...

How about somebody with a criminal record? Most people would answer "no way" but you could argue that this is a little short sighted ... after all even some of the top entrepreneurs in the world have a criminal record - Duncan Bannatyne for example ... and even Richard Branson got in to trouble over a deliberate VAT scam...

The whole topic could probably open up a whole new debate which could last for weeks (so I'll stop)... but just be aware.

I'm in the fortunate position of now being able to choose who I work with ... and I consider very carefully who I do business with, and I suggest you do the same. Somebody having a 'colourful' past is no reason not to associate with them but you do need to think very carefully about how you may be perceived ... In the mean time immerse yourself in everything that can help you move forward.

In these times of doing business what I would look for is a consistent supplier who can pay you on time every time you do business and that can be more difficult than finding your sales team of agents and distributors http://www.dsa.org.uk/news_video.htm

For those looking to establish a business quickly and be supported by a company with a first class track record in a growth market then get in touch 0845 056 9325
then you can decide fly a plane or drive a crazy car!

    How To Escape Your Job?

'How To Be A Freelance Sales Agent'

    What is a Sales Agent?

A Sales Agent is a self employed salesperson who works, usually alone, for perhaps several non competing companies. The Sales Agent obtains orders for those companies and is paid commission on those orders.

The Sales Agent usually works in a specific area of industry and within geographical limits. It is usual for the Sales Agent to keep his agencies within the same industry. A major advantage is the ability of a Sales Agent to offer his customer a range of products rather than the single product that an employed salesman can offer.

How do I become a Sales Agent?

You can start tomorrow. You may operate under your own name or you may trade as a company. It is not necessary to register the company if you do not want to form a limited company. (speak to an accountant on this).

If you use a name other than your own you are described as xxxxx, (your name), 'Trading As', xxxxx (your company name). In all circumstances you must inform your local Inland Revenue Office that you have commenced trading, (sorry but the dreaded Self Assessment comes in).

Will I make it as a Sales Agent?

Most important is that you have some sales experience. And if you don't then find a DSA (direct selling association) member company and learn the ropes. It is possible to come from a non selling background and build a tremendous business, earn plenty, become an effective Sales Agent witha DSA company and earn whilst learning to sell. Selling is about taking the hard knocks and not becoming disheartened. Being a Sales Agent is even more so because if you don't sell you don't eat. If you are not afraid of having variable earnings and are determined you can make it a success, you will. Often you can enhance income by getting your own sub agents and that can be a wonderful income stream

    What about commission?

It will depend on what you sell. If you are selling quick turnover, high volume, repeat order products around 10% is the norm. If you are selling high value items with long lead times 20%, even 30% is required. You will have to wait a long time for the sale to mature and you are at greater risk of losing the order. When getting started look for highly consumable or repeatable that you cannot buy on the shelf of your average shop

    Set up costs

Not a lot, if you already have transport to get you to the customers. You will need a telephone and some headed notepaper. If you have a computer this will save on this cost and also make letter writing and accounting less costly. Things like visiting cards are sometimes supplied by your principals, you will need to project you own image as an independent agent by having your own printed material. Resist the temptation to print these on your computer. They usually are cheap and look it.

    Where do I find agencies?

The major place to find genuine agency opportunities is by joining MAA or AgentBase. Many 'so called' agencies are advertised in local and national newspapers but beware. Some of them are 'Pyramid Schemes' and some need you to invest thousands of pounds and no return if it goes wrong. The DSA website is good and also the MAA or AgentBase publishes a regular magazine carrying adverts from Principals seeking Sales Agents in all industries. Once you are established many agencies are passed on by word of mouth from other Agents who work for the same Principals as you do.

    How many agencies to hold

Initially only one until you have gained some experience. Once you feel comfortable with the concept of being your own boss you can expand your number of agencies gradually but do not collect agencies. Remember each one has to be serviced and all Principals seem to want you to spend all your time pushing their product. Too many agencies can call your integrity into question.

    How about job security?

A surprising amount. There is a piece of legislation called 'The Commercial Agents Regulations 1993' which dictates that you must have a contract with your Principal and that contract must have certain protection and obligations for both parties enshrined in it. Copies of this can be obtained on the HMSO Website, Free legal advice and many other benefits for members are afforded by joining the 'PROFESSIONAL SALES ASSOCIATION'. Tel 0207 407 8833.

    Conclusion

Most Sales Agents consider themselves to be at the pinnacle of their sales career. They rely on their professionalism, salesmanship and customer relations to earn their living. In return it is theoretically possible to enjoy an income far in excess of that usually earned by a paid salesman.

The only limit to the size of their earnings is the amount of time, effort and salesmanship they put in. Not for them the petty squabbles, rivalry and jealousy that arise when such earnings are within a company structure.

My own reasons for this are not just the potential earnings I really enjoy the satisfaction derived from nobody telling me what to do, when to do it, how much I will get paid and when I take free time.

I really enjoy roaming around the world doing business!

If you are new to this or need to make money before waving two fingers at the boss (no matter how you feel about your employer be polite as they will be your best prospects) and running a business your way needs some practice simply join an MLM company or go to the DSA website as these companies are great at getting you in business very fast.

    Look on the bright side!

Are you an optimist? You will know if you try to see the opportunity in every misfortune, Are you a pessimist? You will soon tell if you tend to focus on misfortune in every opportunity. An optimist sees the doughnut, the pessimist a hole. Please really understand that you too can develop success from every failure. A set back is only the stepping stone before success. Do not confuse discouragement or even total failure! These are not going to hold you back and you just need to see this as two stepping stones to success. These elements do so much for you simply study them and make them work for you. View every problem as an opportunity or you will absorb these set-backs into your persona and that will be most unattractive. The darker the better so you can see the stars.

Risk failure also stand a chance of success

If the business equivalent of Simon Cowell came across your company, would he think it had the X-factor?

For every business that succeeds, there are many more that go up the tubes.

Some people attribute this to luck, some people seem to be lucky over and over again

I agree that those who risk failure also stand a chance of success and both groups deserve a BIG pat on the back!!

Does such a thing as the business X-Factor exist and if so, how do you know if you’ve got it?
    Practice makes perfect
In his best seller, Outliers, Malcom Gladwell explains that talent is a necessary, but not sufficient requirement for success on its own. Years of effort are also required and ten thousand hours of practice seem necessary to achieve world class performance. This principle is epitomised by the who famously said “the more I practise, the luckier I get”.
    Gary Player golfing legend
We may think that Beckham could bend the ball with natural talent, but he spent a large part of his childhood practising. In fact, if you ask Alex Ferguson for the footballers secret, he'd say that “the important thing is practice”.

Did Bill Gate just do one thing and crack it?
Sorry, turns out that Bill Gates did huge amounts of programming – ten thousand hours - before he hit the big time.

The list goes on much longer than we have time for, I have seen this first-hand in direct sales business with (most) some agents not listening, not working hard enough and quitting because it is really harder than a job.

Some however, get rejected, get back in the game, get rejected, get sworn at, people cross the road to avoid a pitch and they get back in the game and just keep going

The result is a million or two, not in one lump, certainly in income from the day the buy that first starter kit and by the time the heirs to the estate and finished spending it... and perhaps they leave it as an heirloom and it is worth multiple millions. Those who do this don't just like driving all night after late night long distance meeting, or enjoy spending the food money on national adverts, or enjoy speaking with 70 or 80 phone callers from marketing and neither do they really want to phone 100 people on the list of a distributor that they just sponsored..... Some do because they know that a dynasty is being built
Direct Selling and Traditional Business is no different, and hard work in gaining the right knowledge and skills is crucial. Luck also plays a big part, being in the right place at the right time, but that won’t do any good if you haven’t put in the graft.
I come from a Chicken Farming background. But I soon escaped, my goal was the largest tyres on the pub car-park, not on a tractor, something very fast with huge servicing bills and would look good on a day at the races, firs selling, then started my business, Manufacturers Agent, I studied sales and marketing extensively and had been involved in marketing smaller businesses at board level for several years. I saw the whole marketing thing was try it, fail, try it, fail, try it, IT BLOODY WORKS, hang on to that, find another marketing tool.... Then the selling process, wwatch your appearence, manner, words.... try varioius things, fail, try again, fail, fail, and then you find that you convert more as the system works .....In other words, I practice first.
    Dare to fail
Some people start a business because they want to get rich, others want to change the world, no one wants to fail.

To succeed in businesses you have to make a profit. Profit is oxygen, and is necessary even if the principle objective isn’t about money.

The biggest show stopper.........No profit means no reserves which means that the slightest setback kills you. So forget the X Factor if you haven’t set profitability as an early objective – you won’t be around to find out whether you’ve got it or not. If you know that part of what you do will take a medium term then do something to make short term cashflow
    Having a compass
To arrive at your destination, you need to know where you are going.

Occasionally a business succeeds by accident, but that’s unusual. You must create a plan which gets to your objective.

So spend time working out who are your customers, what you are going to provide, what they will pay and how you will market. Then you need to understand your costs and find out what the competition is doing.

    Customer obsession
    SIMPLE
Customers pay the wages; if we forget this we’re in trouble. All successful businesses need to centre on their customers.
    Flexibility
The newspapers take great delight in recounting stories about hapless travellers whose satnavs took them up a track, across a river or over a cliff. They thought they had the route cracked.

It’s is no different in business, when disaster is imminent it’s critical to be flexible.
    Fun makes good business sense
If we find something enjoyable, we are generally good at it. Starting a business takes a lot of energy, and it is much easier to focus on an area where you have some expertise and interest. These are the same areas where we are likely to exhibit the X-Factor. If we are exceptional at something, we are very likely to enjoy it. So try to find a business you will enjoy, it makes sense on every front.
    X-Factor
I wonder if any of this comes naturally? Concentrating on customers, having a plan yet being flexible enough to change it and enjoying the whole process is a tall order. Is this the business X-Factor?
If you watch the ITV show you know that the truly talented are sometimes hesitant about their capabilities. The crazy ones often come with the most certainty and the least talent. The best ones always want to improve, and maybe that’s it. The X-Factor could be a commitment to listen to advice, practise and continually improve.

It could be that’s what really matters. Or the bank manager might be your Simon Cowell and wipe the floor with you .....

Google Buzz! Can you get the buzz in your business

Will Google Buzz benefit your business?

Now that the dust has settled on the controversial launch of Google Buzz, I decide to investigate whether it offers real business opportunities.
This piece on Google Buzz and its potential applications for business was originally going to run some weeks ago, but two things rapidly became apparent.
Firstly, we needed time to have a play around with it. It wasn't instantly clear to me exactly what its purpose, strengths and/or weaknesses were and the fact that it landed out of the blue, with no instructions save for a two-minute video, certainly didn’t help matters.

As ever some sources were prepared to stump up some snap opinions (opinions are like bottoms as everybody has one and they are often full of the same stuff) even some of those quickly wanted to retract or amend their initial thoughts as they further explored the functionality.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yi50KlsCBio&feature=player_embedded

Mind you, woth the BIG the liberties that Buzz took with its users' privacy resulted in such an unholy storm that everything else regarding Google's foray into the social world was overshadowed by the controversy. Understandably, people weren't happy when they initially checked out Buzz to find that they were already set up to follow people and the backlash began.

The dust has now settled (somewhat). Although whether or not Buzz will ever recover from the furore is yet to be seen.

Could extra funding announced in the Budget help your business go green?

With the upcoming General Election only a few weeks away, Alistair Darling's Budget speech included a raft of measures aimed at helping businesses embrace the shift to a low carbon economy, in particular the unveiling of a much-anticipated "green equity bank".

    The Chancellor announced:

    • The creation of a £2 billion Green Investment Bank - £1 billion from the government plus £1 billion private sector backing - to ramp up support for green transport, sustainable energy projects and low carbon infrastructure.
    • A £60 million offshore wind power competition.
    • Extra support for the car industry to develop low carbon vehicles.
    • Funding to support 20,000 extra university places in key areas such as science and engineering - key skills required in the shift to a low carbon economy.
    • A £35 million University Enterprise Capital Fund to support spin-out ventures in growing sectors such as advanced manufacturing and low carbon goods
