New Exporter? Get a Passport to Export from UKTI West Midlands

To help businesses start exporting, UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) West Midlands offers a "Passport to Export" package including a year’s export training, planning, support and even export funding grants.

Is your business suitable for the Passport to Export programme?

To apply for the Passport to Export programme, your business must:

  • Be based in the UKTI's West Midlands region
  • Employ fewer than 250 people
  • Manufacture in the UK or provide a UK based service
  • Have annual sales under £35m
  • Not be more than 25% owned by a company outside the above definition
and:
  • Have less than 25% current export sales

  • OR have Intellectual Property and employ research & development staff (if a technology-led company)

UKTI West Midlands must also see a serious commitment to exporting.

Stages of the “Passport to Export” programme:

Becoming an exporter requires dedicated resources and practical skills. UKTI West Midlands will help provide you with both in the programme:

1 - Export Health Check

A visit from a UKTI West Midlands' International Trade Advisor will assess your company's capabilities and commitment to exporting successfully.

2 - Export Workshop

Attend a one day workshop to help structure your export strategy and develop a 12 month action plan. Topics include issues you must address before you begin and how to avoid common export pitfalls. You can also network with other companies involved in the UKTI West Midlands' programme.

3 - Export Strategy & Action

The final, vital stage: agree your action plan with your International Trade Advisor. Then your Passport to Export support package will be assembled using the appropriate export services via UKTI West Midlands. This may include the Overseas Market Introductory Service (OMIS).
